Tirana Rock is a mixed-use project. It is an 85 meter high tower designed in the shape of the national hero of Albania Gjergj Kastrioti. The facility emphasizes the unique identity of Tirana, the building will be considered an iconic landmark. The unusual and unique shape of the tower is achieved by the balconies that continue to create an envelope around the entire building. Facial details, such as the nose, ears and chin are imitated through curved projections that create a subtle geometry. Balconies also allow the interior spaces of the building to have a more rational layout, while providing shade and comfort to the exterior spaces. The expressive approach used in Skanderbeg's building befits a city that has developed a tradition of blending art and architecture as part of its post-communist renaissance. The building is planned to consist of one level of commercial space and four levels of offices, which can accommodate deep floor plans at the bottom of the "torso". Above this, 20 floors of residential apartments fill the "head", with special care given to each individual floor plan to ensure these homes are functional despite the building's irregular shape. The expansive balcony spaces are well separated by built-in planters that allow greenery to permeate through the use of predominantly native plants. Also, the building is sustainably designed as it is mostly protected from excessive sunlight. Further, rainwater and heat collection systems minimize the building's water and energy requirements. At night, the light strips built into the lower part of the balconies highlight the shape of Skanderbeg's head, making the building a beacon and landmark in the city.
